Do You Follow The Rules?

Follow-the-rulesWithout rules the world would be complete chaos.  Imagine no one stopping at a red light or a sport where athlete just did whatever they want.  We have to have standardized rules to function in a society.

You need rules to avoid complete chaos personally as well. You may have some you follow already.  Maybe you won’t date someone over/under a certain age or you won’t work a job that requires a suit everyday.  These are just things you follow and you don’t have to think about it much or focus too much energy.  It is just the way things are.

The more rules you have the better you can focus and the less energy you have to waste on deciding on what to do.  This is absolutely critical in your health and wellness too.  I recently discovered my own personal rules.  I never wrote them down or anything, but I started to see rules that I had created for myself and that I follow religiously.

I am going to share some of my rules with you.  You do not have to copy these.  Use them as a guide.  But what I want you to do is start coming up with rules you will start to follow. When ever a tough decision comes up you can just look at your personal rules.  If it will break the rule you don’t do it.

Here are some of mine:

  1. I won’t drink alcohol on a school night.  I have followed this rule for a long time.  Whether it is school or work I won’t have any alcohol.  If I am going to indulge it will be a Friday and/or Saturday only.  If I am offered any other day the answer is easy…nope.
  2. I will workout on Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday/Sunday.  These days are sacred to me.  It is on my schedule and nothing will get in the way of these workouts.
  3. I will only eat a desert or sweets after dinner.  Again if someone offers me something and it is during the day, then the answer is no.  If it is after dinner then I can decide whether it is worth it or not.  But before then I won’t break the rule.

gremlin_rules_by_bwcheshire-d5tx6g9These are just a few that have to do with fitness and nutrition.   Now yes from time to time I will break the rules.  I might have a beer or two on Super Sunday or on my birthday I will eat ice cream all day.  But these are exceptions.  It is not like you are breaking the rules with a gremlin and all hell breaks loose.  It is one cheat then I go back to following the rules.

Hopefully you get the point.  Try it out in your life.  What rules can you start to follow that will get you closer to your goals.
